Influencing Website Rankings

Since URL Rating (UR), Domain Rating (DR), Page Authority (PA), and Domain Authority (DA) were all created to predict how well a webpage or a website will rank on SERPs, it stands to reason that if you can influence UR, DR, PA, and DA you can effectively increased how well a webpage or a website will rank in SERPs.  Not surprisingly, these rankings are very difficult to influence directly. They are made up of an aggregate of metrics and link data that have an impact on the final score. This was done intentionally; these metrics are meant to approximate how competitive a site is in search results. Since Google takes a lot of factors into account, a metric that tries to calculate SERPs must incorporate a lot of factors as well.

Backlink SEO

Quantity vs Quality Backlinks – Focusing on high numbers of backlinks, rather than the quality of them, is a common mistake. One high-quality backlink can easily be worth 1000+ low-quality backlinks. Therefore, it’s not simply a numbers game in which whoever has the most backlinks ranks highest. Furthermore having all your backlinks coming from just a few websites could hurt your SEO more than it helps, thus it is very important that your backlinks come from as many different sources as possible.

Dofollow vs Nofollow Backlinks – Dofollow links tell Google the linking website trusts your domain, which can help your rankings. A dofollow link is a link that helps in terms of SEO by passing the authority of the origin site to the destination site. This passing of authority is called, “link juice.” Nofollow backlinks tell Google that this backlink should not pass on value to the receiving website. In other words, nofollow links still take someone from Website A to Website B, but nofollow links won’t help Website B’s in terms of SEO.

Unique Referring Domains – A domain is a website’s name for example joseone.com, thus any specific website that links to your website is referred to as a unique referring domain. Your unique referring domains count is the number of unique domains that your backlinks originate from. For purposes of improving your overall SEO effectiveness, the total number of unique referring domains linking to your website is far more important than your total number of backlinks. For example, if your website has obtained 30 new backlinks exclusively from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts, then you’ve only effectively added three unique referring domains. The more unique domains that link to you, the more valuable the backlinks.

Natural Backlink Growth – If your website currently has 100 backlinks, it would not make a lot of sense that your site would all of a sudden start getting thousands of backlinks a month. Backlinks must be added gradually, relative to the number of backlinks already in place, to ensure backlinks are considered real. Also, the quality of your backlinks is equally important, and Google sometimes penalizes sites if they have an unusually high number of poor-quality backlinks.

Trusted Backlinks – Backlinks from .edu and .gov domains are considered more authentic in Google’s eyes than backlinks from several .com domains. These can be hard to come by but are very valuable.

Recurring Backlinks – The act of adding additional backlinks on a regular basis is referred to as recurring backlinks. The fact that your website receives high-quality backlinks on a regular basis suggests that the site is still growing in popularity. This ensures that you maintain your current website score and will help to improve your website score over time.

Tier 2 & Tier 3 Backlinks – A Tier 1 backlink is a backlink that points directly to your website.  Tier 2 backlinks are backlinks that point to your Tier 1 backlinks to increase their credibility.  Typically we create 5-30 Tier 2 backlinks for each Tier 1 backlink we provide. Tier 3 backlinks are also created in some cases to point to the Tier 2 backlinks increase their value. Typically we create 0-30 Tier 3 backlinks for each of your Tier 2 backlinks that we created.

Social Signals – Social signals are the likes, shares, votes, pins, or views people place on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or other social media sites that filter out to the various search engines. We use social signals to share our backlinks to increase backlink credibility. Many of the Tier 3 backlinks and some of the Tier 2 backlinks we create are social signals.

Web 2.0 Sites – These websites allow you to create your own website or blog, often free of charge.  These do-it-yourself sites often have super high website scores; for example wordpress.com=93 and blogger.com=99 . They are also very useful for creating Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 backlinks.

Website SEO Retention

Website SEO Retention – This is a measure of how long your SEO progress will last. What is the point of an SEO campaign if your SEO progress fades away after only a few months. That is what happens with many SEO services which explains why most SEO providers never mention SEO retention. JoseOne is very dedicated to insuring your website SEO progress is preserved month to month so your SEO results continue to improve. So much so that we created the first and only Website SEO Retention Score (RS).

Website SEO Retention Score – The JoseOne Website SEO Retention Score (RS) is a method to estimate how well your website retains the progress of your offsite SEO campaign on a sliding scale from 1-100. Retention scores of 60 and below means your SEO campaign is losing ground in most if not all measured metrics which would be the case when you purchase cheap SEO solutions that have little to no chance of improving your website SEO long term. Retention scores of 61-84 are typical of Do It Yourself SEO campaigns where you are making good progress but at a slower pace than you might achieve by hiring a professional SEO firm. Retention scores of 85-91 means your website SEO campaign is making some solid progress over across most metrics. Retention scores of 92+ means your website has maintain and/or gained progress across all measured metrics within the last 30 days, and a perfect retention score of 100 means your website improved across all measure metrics during the last 30 days.

SEO Case Study

JoseOne recommended our popular Premium SEO package to help the soxforhorses.com domain improve within the organic search results. Though it is a slow process, in the long run this is a very effective way to get continual improvements in your organic search results (free traffic). In the diagram shown are the statistics for the first three months of the SEO campaign.  Remember that there is easily a month delay on results for new backlinks since they take a while to show up in the search engines, but you can see that we have made amazing progress already. For comparison, this client purchased their domain over 12 years ago, and in that twelve years they earned 2679 backlinks, 257 referring domains with a domain rating of 28 out of 100, and a domain authority of 25 out of 100, both on a logarithmic scale. In the first 90 days we added 1421 new backlinks (53% increase) and 137 referring domains (53% increase) with a new domain rating of 31, and a domain authority of 28. On the surface a domain rating improvement from 28 to 31 is only a 3% improvement, but since this is on a logarithmic scale it is actually 25.89% improvement for each of the 3 points for a total of 99.53% improvement cumulatively. This doesn’t mean they have 99.51% chance of ranking at the top, what it does mean is that they have improved their chance of ranking higher than their competition across all search terms relative to their website by 99.51%, nearly double. After one year the domain rating climbed to 40, and the domain authority of 50 which for the domain rating, on the logarithmic scale, is a 1585% improvement over 28. You will also notice that similar improvements were realized with , Domain Rating (DR), Domain Authority (DA), Backlinks, and Referring Domains. Obviously results can and will vary based on your competition and how hard they are working to be at the top of the organic search results.

In the next chart referring domains, also know as Unique Domains, are measured against google rank position. The chart demonstrates that there is a direct correlation between the number of referring domains and google organic search position. It is clear that reaching and maintaining a level of 5000 unique referring domains is very desirable and is an obtainable goal.
